The main street of Glen Innes is Grey street, this street has many different buildings of 19th century of colonial history of Australia.
Grey street is a popular attraction for visitors with an interest in history, with one of the highest concentration of heritage-listed buildings in our retail & business centre and neighbouring streets.
Glen Innes Highlands are committed to restoring, maintaining and helping businesses re-purpose these building for new ventures.
The Bank Guest House is a recent example of this with the historic colours preserved on the exterior and the interior bringing elegance and comfort alongside history at every turn with soaring pressed metal ceilings, original polished wood floors and bird’s eye views over the heritage main street.
A great way to explore the main street is to simply take a walk, with the Heritage Tour app (info below) or for even more in depth information, visit the Land of the Beardies History House Museum & Research Centre.

Be guided by an interactive map and read about the history of each building as you're standing right in front of it!
Start at the Visitor Information Centre where you can grab a traditional brochure or download the app via our free WIFI.
Then off you go along the tour whilst reading about the story of each building, the architecture and all of the interesting and quirky facts.

Grab your car, bike or motorcycle and head off from the Visitor Information Centre where you can grab a traditional brochure or download the free Heritage Tour app via our free WIFI.
Then you’re off to the first stop, the Australian Standing Stones, our main tourist attraction and the site of the annual Australian Celtic Festival.
You’ll then drive on to see the Glen Innes Showgrounds which has been in continual use for 140 years and one of the few remaining showgrounds that retains a full suite of architect-designed, Federation style show buildings clustered around the central arena.
Continue to explore the historic churches with their beautiful gardens, schools, parks and the beautiful Railway station and finish at the Land of the Beardies History House Museum.
